CUE Backup
Back up your library. Play with peace of mind.
LastCUE backs up your rekordbox USB to your computer. A Full Backup saves playlists, CUE points, waveforms and the music files together, and after the first run it copies only what changed. Even if your USB is lost or damaged, you can choose a Full Backup version and restore it to another USB.
Free includes all three backup types and Restore to USB, with 5 reusable backup slots: delete an old version to keep backing up. Backups stay on your computer.
Three backups for different needs.
All three are stored on your computer. They differ in how much they save and what they can bring back when something goes wrong.

- The safest choice: even if the USB dies completely or goes missing, you can get the library, music, CUE points and waveforms back.
Full Backup saves the PIONEER and Contents folders on the USB; it is not a disk image. Files that are already missing or unreadable when you back up cannot be saved.
USB lost or dead? A Full Backup restores to a new one.
Quick and Analysis backups save only library data. They fix a corrupted library by restoring it to the same USB. To carry on with a new USB after the original is lost or fails, you need a Full Backup made beforehand.
- Before: choose Full, tap CUEPlug in the performance USB, choose Full Backup and tap CUE. The library, CUE points and music are saved to your computer; the USB itself is not changed.
- Trouble: the USB is lost or brokenThe backup is on your computer and is not affected. Plug in a new USB with enough space.
- Restore: pick a version, write it to the new USBChoose a version in backup history, select Restore to USB and pick the new USB. When it finishes, try a few tracks on the player before the gig.
Incremental Full Backup
Slow the first time. Fast after that.
The first Full Backup copies every file in both folders. After that, a Full Backup of the same USB reuses files that have not changed and copies only new and modified ones.
- Every version is complete: restore any one of them on its own, with no chain to replay.
- Identical content is stored once, so versions share unchanged files instead of each taking a whole USB of space.
- Deleting an old version frees only the files no other version uses.
- Backing up only reads the USB; nothing on it is changed.
In one test, a USB of about 30 GB with more than 10,000 files took about 6 minutes for the first Full Backup. After exporting 10 new tracks in rekordbox, the next Full Backup took about 55 seconds and copied 71 files (about 218 MB).
Real times depend on the USB, the computer, the number of files and how much changed.
Backup is free to use.
Free already includes Full Backup, incremental copying and Restore to USB. Pro is for keeping more versions and seeing every change in detail.

Before you rely on a backup
- Stored locallyBackups are saved in the local folder you choose in LastCUE and are not uploaded to LastCUE servers.
- Keep it on another driveDo not keep the backup on the performance USB. A backup on the same device is lost with it.
- Move the whole libraryFull Backups share one backup library. To move or transfer them, copy the whole library, not a single .lcue file.
- Check the target before restoringRestoring replaces PIONEER and Contents on the target USB. Confirm the drive and version, and save newer data on it first if you still need it.
- Backup is not repairA restore brings back the data saved in that version. A library that was already damaged when backed up is still damaged after restoring.
Does a LastCUE backup include music files?
It depends on the mode. Quick and Analysis do not include music files. Full saves the complete PIONEER and Contents folder trees, including existing music in those folders. These backups are stored locally.

Choose the required version in backup history and select Restore to USB. Check the target and overwrite confirmation before starting. Quick restores library data; Analysis also restores its captured analysis files; Full can restore saved music. Only the selected version's contents are used.
Read the full answerHow do the five Free backup slots work, and what happens when they are full?
Free provides five reusable slots for retained formal backups, rather than five lifetime backup attempts or five USB devices. At the limit, delete an older backup in LastCUE or upgrade to Pro to create another. Pro expiry does not automatically delete existing formal backups.
Read the full answerWhere are LastCUE backups stored, and can I move them?
Backups are saved locally, by default in ~/LastCUE/backups, unless you choose another folder. View the actual path in Settings or open it from backup history. For newer shared-object backups, copy the complete backup library rather than a .lcue file alone.
