Can I search Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and accented Latin track names on a CDJ
Updated October 9, 2026
LastCUE's Latin Alphabet Converter supports Chinese pinyin and initials, Japanese and Korean romanization, and normalization of many accented or extended Latin letters, including those used in French and Spanish. With the required language data available, it adds searchable text to rekordbox USB metadata. The default Append to Comment setting preserves Title and Artist. The player must search the destination field for that text to help you find the track.
What does the converter add
It generates search text from the selected Title and Artist fields. Chinese can produce compact pinyin and initials, Japanese and Korean produce romanized readings, and supported accented Latin letters become basic Latin-letter equivalents.
| Language or script | Original text | Example conversion | Search use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chinese | 周杰伦 | ZhouJieLun / ZJL | Type pinyin or initials |
| Japanese | 愛の歌 | AinoUta | Type the Japanese reading with Latin letters |
| Korean | 서울 | Seoul | Type the Korean reading with Latin letters |
| French accented Latin letters | Café | Cafe | Type without the accent |
| Spanish accented Latin letters | Mañana | Manana | Type using a basic Latin keyboard |
Pinyin and romanization represent pronunciation; they do not translate a title into English. The Latin-character option normalizes supported letters and accents. The available Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Latin language data determines which conversions can run.
These examples illustrate the output style. Names and titles can have more than one reading, and mixed-language text may need review. Check the preview and adjust the result before applying.
Why can I see the Comment but not find the track
If the reading is visibly stored in Comment but searching that exact text cannot find the track, check whether the player's active search includes Comment. Some players display comments without searching them. Confirm that you loaded the updated library, then test a few tracks.
Check the manual for your exact player model and firmware, then test a few tracks. LastCUE changes the exported metadata; it does not change the player's search implementation or firmware. Do not assume a result tested on one CDJ or XDJ will be identical on another.
Will my original title be replaced
With the default Append to Comment setting, Title and Artist remain unchanged. Existing comments are kept and the generated readings are appended.
The converter also allows an explicit Title or Artist destination, with append or overwrite behavior. Choosing overwrite replaces the selected field's text. Review the destination before applying; the default preservation rule does not describe every available setting.
If the player does not support Comment search, try adding the conversion after the original track title. Select Title as both the source field and the destination, choose Append, and review the preview. For example, a title such as 愛の歌 can become 愛の歌 (AinoUta). This keeps the original title and adds Latin-letter search text to the Title field. Test Title search on the actual player before applying it to more tracks.
How do I restore the text from before conversion
Before applying a conversion, LastCUE automatically creates a local Quick backup of the exported library. To undo a change to Title, Artist, or Comment, open the backup history, find the automatic backup created immediately before that conversion, check its date and source USB, select the original USB as the target, close rekordbox, and restore if the backup offers that action.
Restoring a supported Device Library Quick backup returns the exported library to that saved state, including the original text. It also rolls back library changes made after the backup; it is not a per-track undo. Quick does not contain songs or restore analysis files. OneLibrary Quick backups currently support read-only preview rather than direct restore; use a supported pre-conversion Full backup for that library. See restore a USB backup for the mode and target rules.
How should I test it
- Check the language data available in your version of LastCUE and open the matching language option.
- Select the exported library used by your player. If you intend to update both Device Library and OneLibrary, select both.
- Clear the global track selection before choosing a small test group. Changing a search or playlist filter does not necessarily clear tracks selected elsewhere.
- Review each generated reading, destination field, and append or overwrite setting.
- Close rekordbox and apply the selected changes. LastCUE automatically creates a local Quick backup before writing them.
- Load the USB on your actual player and search for the stored reading. Expand to more tracks only after this test works as intended.
Keep a backup of comments you use for set notes or other information. Replacing a comment, or later clearing it with Smart Cleanup, also removes any search readings stored there.
